Bottoms Hall Woods

Bottoms Hall Woods

If you've never ventured in Bottoms Hall then do so.... these woods are still popular today as they have always been.. there's beauty all around and some fantastic trees to be seen.. one of the few places around Hyde I have seen Roe Deer.

Bottoms Hall or Bothams Hall is the Etherow valley between Werneth Low and Broadbottom. I normaaly walk throught either The Great Woods or following the footpath and private road past Bottom Hall Farm.. I enter by the pathway just before the train bridge Stockport Road/Mottram Old Road Theres a Hall there tat dates back 1461... The whole area is beautiful at this time of year.... I've sent you an email Ian.. give me a ring if need be

Ian, We've got posts coming up on Bears Wood, and Brook Fold Wood.. these are both off the Trans Pennine trail at the Godley End.. you might find these of interest as well.. We will try to cover most of the old Woodlands in the area over time.
Hi Sandy... thanks for dropping by, glad you like it.

This is a wonderful old photo, Tom. I've not been in Bottoms Hall Woods for years. My friend had a "ghostly" experience in there when we were young and it put me off venturing in there alone haha...

Interesting Nancy.... can't you tell us more? Jane and I were very sceptical about all matter such as this, but we are more open minded about it now as one or two strange things have happen to us over the years. Just before Windy Harbour Restaurant was pulled down we had taken the lads for a walk and I'd parked up there... I was taking to our Ben & Sam.. Jane was standing close by... I saw her face change and she fell forwards.... she didn't fall of anything... She went white.... turned to me and said lets go .. we got to the car and would not say anything about it until we'd got home and Ben and Sam went out of earshot.. She told me that all of a sudden she went cold... then she was pushed in the back quite hard... she said she felt threatened.. We have been back walking around there many many times since but Jane will not go near the place now. This happened right on the corner of the building at the top of Cock Brow.. All I can say about this matter is that Jane is very level headed... and I did she it happen.. what sticks in my mind mostly was how her face changed just before....
Have you ever heard the story of the Boggert of Gower Hey Woods Nancy... and how it was got rid of?

The story was that my friend was playing in the woods with her sister and they were playing hide and seek. On her turn to hide,my friend went through the bushes and into a clearing. She said it went very quiet and a young girl in old fashioned clothing appeared from no-where and asked for help....when asked what the problem was she said "he's coming.." and then went behind a tree and promptly disappeared. As you can imagine my friend and sister got home in record time that night....to my knowledge they never played in there again.
