Hyde Name Origins.

The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

My Very Own Cotton Queen

Photobucket

Here is a picture of three Hyde Cotton workers... the one in the middle is my mum... I think I was told this was taken at Slack Mills.. I know she also worked at Hyde Mill and of course Ashton Brothers... She might not have won a 'Cotton Queen' contest like Hyde's Frances Lockett, but she will always be my very own Cotton Queenie...

It's wonderful to have pictures of family. Your mother was very pretty and had a beautiful smile.
