@ Maloney

I hope they don't close St Thomas's, myself and my sister were cristened there, and also my son.
It's where I also used to be a choirboy, back around 1978, the vicar was a Mr Fell.

It's a lovely looking church, but I do know they had trouble getting a vicar a while back. :(

I was christened at St Thomas's too. It will be sad if it closes but what are churches doing to attract people? My brother in law is a vicar and he told me his first duty is not to the parishioners but to raise money! And the C of E is very rich!

Excellent comment... St Marys in Newton is the church that as seen more folks on its pews.. and certain items have been entrusted to St Marys. St Stephens were attached to St Mary's in some way or other... As you can most likely tell I'm not a church goer.. never have been.. in many ways if my life had been different I might have been so..
I think what you say is spot on Susan... in all your points. No matter what one's thought are on other creeds or religions the local Hydonian Muslims have prospered and will continue to do so.

Difficult to worship in a church when you live miles away. It would take me hours to get there!

MALONEY
When Nancy and myself set this blog up we welcomed all comments and feed back... we never expected the site to take off as it did. We attract people from 131 Counties, so it should come as no surprise to you that some folks will find your comments offensive. Of all the people who have, and still leave comments, your's by far worry me the most... You have such a lot to give with the knowledge you seem to have of our town.. but I'm now asking myself at what price... you have offended folks before with what you have wrote... and the time as come for you to step back and think about how you are effecting others.
I will be speaking to the other team members concerning you and your comments.... the only way of notifying you of the out come will be here in the comments.. unless you'd like to drop me an email.

Maloney and Stafford, I find it distressing that you are attempting to infiltrate this valuable and much appreciated website with your racist comments and personal attacks. I will write to the admin team and request your removal.

180 grand, sounds like a bargain, but even if planning permission could be obtained for several houses, what expense would it be to relocate one grave let alone many?

@ Tufty Club

Reading through the documents it states that all human remains have been removed from the property, so that potential 'deal breaker' has thankfully been taken care of.

Thanks I couldn't read the txt on the sale, my eyes are not what they used to be and the text is quite small . Time for a trip to the opticians I think. Oh well it comes to us all

Can any tell me what happened to the church. Is it now a private home? I no longer live in the area and am curious what happened to St Stevens Church. I was christened there back in 1968. A piece of my personal history.
