Hyde Name Origins.
The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .
Mayor of Hyde
A rather splendid postcard of Alderman John Blackwell J.P.
He was the mayor of Hyde in 1904/05.

A really imposing portrait. I wonder what happened to Searle's archive? Did he have one? He must have taken all the noteworthy characters in Hyde.
Quite a lot of Searle's work has appeared on eBay over time so there must be a lot of it about still.
