Hyde Name Origins.
The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .
Lovely view.
A beautiful old postcard of Bottoms Hall Wood dated 1916.

What a lovely picture! An idyllic scene.
... and it's still very similar today.
Hello everyone, Eileen from Bolton here.
It's a lovely old picture and the colours are fantastic. Being from Hyde of course i've heard of Bottoms Hall Wood many times but
please remind me where it is?
Bottoms Hall Wood lies between Werneth Low and Broadbottom. There are a number of ways to reach it, one of which is via the little lane that runs from the top of Apple Street just before it meets Cock Brow.
It is still a lovely place to walk, and if you are lucky and quiet enough you might see the Roe deer that roam the area.
Eileen next time you are up here get our John to take you up there for a walk... you will enjoy it. If I'm up to walking I'll come along to. :O)
