New Book

This is the cover of a book I bought last Thursday, written by Lee Brown and published by Amberley Publishing of Stroud, Gloucestershire. The three earlier books of archive photographs of Hyde in the Local History Series which I have were also published in Stroud, but by two different publishing firms. The latest book is different to the earlier ones in that the author has not confined himself to archive photographs but has used his own camera to show current views as a comparison. I bought my copy of the book from KBz News in the Mall, but it's also available at Bill Harrison's on Market Street and no doubt at other newsagents too. I've only had a quick look at it so far, but I can recommend it to anyone with an interest in old Hyde.

Thanks for the heads up. I tried buying online from Telegraph and Guardian but their sites were useless. Barry in OZ go to The Book Depository. It took me all of 2 minutes to purchase, they are quick & efficient and deliver worldwide free!
Cost of book $19.

Can highly recommend this book, very well put together, and so colourful, and theres a photo near the back of the book of my family's shoeshop Garbetts comfort corner on Manchester Rd/Newton St, so lovely for me to see that. Much prefer that particular corner of Hyde then, to what it is today! There is a nice dedication at the front of the book to Bill Harrison, who has traded in Hyde for many many years, Bill was a friend of my dad. That was a nice gesture Lee.

Many thanks for your positive comments on my book, they are very much appreciated and for the fact that nobody has mentioned the two glaring errors Amberley made. The caption for the open bus outing is wrong as is the one for the gymnastic display by Hyde Lad's Club.If anyone wants their copy signing I'll be at Hyde library at 6.30pm, on Friday the 10th.May, when you can all put me right on any boobs I've made. Thank you all.
Cheers,
Lee Brown.

My book has arrived today. Wellworth every penny, £11,42 from the book depository, free p&p.
Now to the book, it's wonderful, well thought out, pleasant to read, the photos, cracking! He must have got up very early to get some of the pictures, less, traffic and people. He has captured Hyde past and present, beautifully. Well done.

Hi, I have just found out that there are also 2 more books written in the same style. One for Stockport and one for Macclesfield, if they are of interest to anyone.
