After contacting the owner and my own information, the conclusion is that the house used to be a PH called the Rising Sun and not the Horseshoe. This I think stood further up on the RHS, now demolished. ( CCC Tithe mapsplot 139 & 165). As far as the name The Old Manor House is concerned we think that this is just wishful thinking on the previous owners opinion. The name Chain Bar Lane originates from the fact that there used to be a Toll Bar at the top of the lane. Another interesting story regarding the house is that it is supposed to be haunted by a Victorian Lady dressed in grey.

Regards Paul TaylorAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599481671908734427.post-60310917488605733372011-03-28T14:11:43.723+01:002011-03-28T14:11:43.723+01:00Please see Paul Taylor's comment on my post ht...Please see Paul Taylor's comment on my post http://hydedailyphoto.blogspot.com/2010/10/abc-wednesday-o-is-for-old-manor-house.htmlGerald (SK14)https://www.blogger.com/profile/18308693910074268386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599481671908734427.post-81258714894189123532011-03-03T22:29:44.047+00:002011-03-03T22:29:44.047+00:00Gerald: 1880 is what is stated in Paul's excel...Gerald: 1880 is what is stated in Paul's excellent book... Both names imply that the house was connected with a smithy, and the landlord perhaps ran both businesses.
