Teachers I remember are Mr Walkden Headmaster, Cook (who like his namesake emigrated to Australia) Whitaker, Horrocks in music and I'm sure he had a bald head with shiny black boots. Howes who was the PT teacher, Riley, Heartley and Brodderick who was English teacher who also took some of us hiking and caving on weekends. Mellor AKA Beaky, Jones in metal work, Heppinstall in Art and Howarth who taught woodwork. I was in Clive house (blue) and the school motto was 'perserverance' (something that has stuck with me through life). The house with most points on Friday went home twenty minutes early. Names I recall are ... Brian Bardsley, David Grundy, Allan Council, John Higginbottom, John Heggenbottom, Peter Lee, someone Ridgeway (memory on way out) and Jim Peddler.

Tom Standeven
North Somerset Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09786375408624594189noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599481671908734427.post-42648123688107604992016-09-11T08:51:25.901+01:002016-09-11T08:51:25.901+01:00Hi my name is Ian Wilson and I attended Greenfield...Hi my name is Ian Wilson and I attended Greenfield street from 1954 to 1958 and in my final year I was school Athletics captain, winning the 100 yards, 220 yards the long jump and anchored the 4x 110 yards relay team in the Hyde and district school sports, I remember Mr. Broderick (English and cricket team) and Mr. Howe's who I think was the sports master who always made me the 12th man for the school football team, but I hardly ever played because they were such a good team at the time and I remember some of the names like Harry Jack, Ernie Whitehead, Billy Wright amongst others, some of my memories have faded somewhat being 73 now. I had some pictures but have lost them over the years and have not seen any posts from others in amongst these articles from my years there.I have a memory of being picked for the school cricket team and telling Mr. Broderick that I could not play because I was running in a track league meeting for East Cheshire harriers the same day and he was not happy, until I helped to win the school athletics trophy for Drake house of which he was house Master and then I was awarded the prize for best pupil in English composition which was a great surprise for me. I have great memories of the school and it helped to shape my future life for the better with the discipline and values it instilled in me. I was offered a place at Hyde Grammar half way through my time there, but I turned it down so that I could start an apprenticeship at 15 in Electronics and also to contribute to the family budget being the eldest of 5 children. I t did me no harm staying at the school, because I have had a successful life in both business and personal area's and do not regret any of my time spent there at all. It would be great to see other comments from my time at the school, but has time passes it will get harder for people to reply being the age I am now as I am sure all of the teachers from that period will be long gone as will a large percentage of my fellow pupils I would imagine.IAN WILSONnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599481671908734427.post-13982367794863354152015-10-09T18:29:03.413+01:002015-10-09T18:29:03.413+01:00My name is Dennis Smith (Smithy) I went to Greeny ...My name is Dennis Smith (Smithy) I went to Greeny from Holy Trinity Primary School in Gee Cross I can't remember the exact year but would be either 1962 or 1963 Class Mates at Greeny I remember are Alan West (went on to be a football professional for Burnley),Philip Rowbotham, John Harrop (Harry),George Racz, Paul Dentith, Steve Pollit, John Braddock, Jeffry Braddock, Paul Farrel,I am sure there are many I have not mentioned as we were a class of around about 30 I remember the House Names Clive (Blue) Wolfe (Red) Scott (Green) and Drake (Yellow) My last Form was 5T going on to do CSE's and GCE'sAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08701466718677221675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599481671908734427.post-15518096024939408512014-09-05T15:22:35.876+01:002014-09-05T15:22:35.876+01:00I though Mr Grimes was the Science teacher and Mr ...I though Mr Grimes was the Science teacher and Mr Backshesh? was the music teacher.
David PanterAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599481671908734427.post-17552509114026102132014-05-25T10:33:57.061+01:002014-05-25T10:33:57.061+01:00just found this site, whist browsing for old pic of...just found this site, whist browsing for old pic of hyde
I lived in hyde from 1978 to 2005.
went to greeny from 1978 - 1983. some of the stories I have just read ??? im crying with laughterAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599481671908734427.post-15098548623903251542014-02-25T14:25:03.233+00:002014-02-25T14:25:03.233+00:00i probably went to school with you neil
