I was lucky enough to get permission to go into the clocktower of the Town Hall and take photos, which was very exciting for me as I love that building. The reason for black and white was purely because I had bought all the equipment to develop and print black and white photos in my bedroom at the time. Sorry Jean, I'm not the Grant you know, I lived on Railway View opposite Provident Mill (till it was demolished in 1969 when I was 5) then lived on Rutland Street (Flowery Field) and ended up in Ashton. I do try and get my fix of Hyde as much as possible though.Grant Olivernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599481671908734427.post-9665943994956739362012-01-03T18:14:38.648+00:002012-01-03T18:14:38.648+00:00Rock Ape... let me know when you are next over and...Rock Ape... let me know when you are next over and I'll have a pint with you in the Sheps.. thank you for your comment, keep them coming.Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04167792394551286975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599481671908734427.post-55973987511837637902012-01-03T18:10:18.199+00:002012-01-03T18:10:18.199+00:00This Blog for Hyde is brilliant,i'm from Hyde,...This Blog for Hyde is brilliant,i'm from Hyde, born on Albion st,most of my family still live there, and lived most of my formative years in Gee cross.I left Hyde in 85,then came home in 94-98 then left again,i live down south now, trying to educate them!! it will be a long job!
I only get home about twice a year but it's as if i never left.
Hyde is a Gem,i will be back in Feb,counting the days already...Sheps,white lion, unity etc,etc here i come!!!!!!!!!!!!Rock Apenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599481671908734427.post-52778029140198430362012-01-03T18:05:16.651+00:002012-01-03T18:05:16.651+00:00Correct about picture number two... the pathway is...Correct about picture number two... the pathway is known as Bird Cage Walk.
As for the Fountain... we probably did the town centre a favour that day.... it was looking in need of a scrub down.Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04167792394551286975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599481671908734427.post-6497888723782632972012-01-03T16:16:36.756+00:002012-01-03T16:16:36.756+00:00I would have thought that the most difficult photo...I would have thought that the most difficult photo to pin-point would be the second one, but that's probably because it's a path that I've never walked along. That looks like the top of Rosemount Church on the left, and if that's so then that's Flowery Field Primary School to the left of the path, and the railway is behind the fence and trees on the right.

I hope the boys in blue haven't still got an open case file on the soapsuds incident at the fountain Tom!Dave Williamsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599481671908734427.post-78765356019673751392012-01-02T18:48:13.928+00:002012-01-02T18:48:13.928+00:00I remember the Fountain very well... I recalled it being name the Wishing Well... all the heavy drinkers would sit there in the mornings, and in between day time closing hours 3-30-5-00 'Wishing' the pub was open..
Another memory I have of the fountain... and one I shouldn't perhaps own up to is the time me and Dave Edwards (Edder) filled it with detergent... the suds were blowing all over the square... the door way of the White Lion was a mass of suds.. and the traffic was altered until the fire brigade hosed the street down. The council did turn up to turn the fountain off but could not find the shut off valve for ages... The suds went right over to the town hall and covered cars... it was a very funny sight at the time... ha!Tomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04167792394551286975noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599481671908734427.post-63258003938426108082012-01-02T18:16:14.885+00:002012-01-02T18:16:14.885+00:00WERNETH LOW IS THE LOWEST SPUR OF THE PENNINES!!WERNETH LOW IS THE LOWEST SPUR OF THE PENNINES!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8599481671908734427.post-33690008569952952752012-01-02T18:09:09.305+00:002012-01-02T18:09:09.305+00:00Thanks Dave and Tom. Photo 16 looks to have been taken from the top of the Town Hall, the same viewpoint as photos 9, 10, 14, 17 and 18 - that's the top of the Theatre Royal on the left. Is there a date with them? The black and white medium gives a sense of age but I don't think they're all that old.
