Here are some photos of Greenfield Street School when it was demolished - to make way for the new Asda store. (circa 2000)?
They actually let me go round the school and take these pictures as it was a bank holiday and there was only the security on
One is the date stone off the front of the school, one is the huge bell tower off the top of the school and one is the upstairs corridor looking from the hall to the secretarys room .

Thanks Steve :)

  1. What was wrong with the building and did we need another store in Hyde?

  2. I know they found asbestos in the building but I think it was more a case of the school having no field nearby for the childrens sports activity - either that or money does indeed talk ,Jean!

  4. Hi Steve
Great pictures.. I am glad you mentioned what else was lost along with these buildings.. the Municipal building you mentioned was a cracker... and these big pillars did make it look very important. If anyone as pictures of this building and the others mentioned please send them in.

  6. I can well imagine the changes you must have seen... none more so than coming back to see what disappeared in the making of Adsa... apart from the motor way I can't think of such a change in my life time.
