It is almost twenty years since Clarendon Square Shopping Centre opened its doors after a huge makeover. The following article was featured in the local paper along with an itinery for the opening .....
Up-date with the following 3 picture from Paul Taylor
Yep, remember the escalator Nancy!
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the main Mall being open with the other bit covered as the pictures show. I remember when it was all open pretty well though when the market stalls ran right through.
So do I ,Ian. I'd love to see some photos of the old market stalls of the 1970's ,prior to the refurbishment!
ReplyDeleteI recall the wind used to blow right through the market... and in the square where Tesco was it swirled round something terrible.. It was a shame that market stalls were removed from around the mall section... Hyde needs some decent 'named' outlets, there's far to many takeaways, pound shops, and cheap tat. Folk should be encouraged come to Hyde to shop, not leave Hyde for the likes of Crown Point North and Trafford Centre.
ReplyDeleteWell Tom from what I hear there are plans to turn Clarendon into something like that - I fear it will change its character but it must keep its market.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've heard the same ,Gerald. Apparently they are going to take away half the market stalls (the half behind the bus stop at the market) and make it a type of rest area?
ReplyDeleteThey need to do something with the place!
ReplyDeleteNot a Crown Point North though (it's just a huge carpark) or Trafford Centre where people get all dressed up to go there - why oh why? (I felt a right scruff last time we went LOL)
