Hyde Festival Theatre Pictures.

The Festival Theatre in Hyde is home to several amateur groups in the area whose combined efforts mean that in one season there can be as many as eleven or twelve productions ranging from drama to musicals, from dance to pantomime.
It is the only live theatre venue in Hyde.

  2. Not a new building though. It was formerly the Alexandra cinema.

  3. As teenagers in the 40's Staurday eveing was to pay 1D (old pennies)on the Green Linnet tram in to Hyde then at the back entrance off Onward Street we paid 3D and sat on wooden forms at the front of the cinema. A regular "Flea pit" but enjoyable. 1d back on tram to Gee Cross and a tuppenny mix from Lizzie Hague's Chippy (now Saun's Barbers shop. Happy days.

  4. In December 1971 aged 16 I appeared in The Government Inspector at the Festival Theatre. The production was staged by Hyde Boys Grammar School but they recruited the female cast members from Leigh Street Secondary and I was one of them.

I would love to hear comments from any of the cast members and if anyone has any photos from the play it would be lovely to see them.
