70's Views

Our thank to Aiden Prince for these shots of Market Place Hyde... Nice to see another view of the Fountain... I'm sure the old 'Town Map' can be seen on the same picture, just left of the tree, above the heads of the folks taking a rest on the benches. As a small boy I'd press the buttons and watch the map light up... I'd like to see a picture of that map or even one like it...

  1. What was in the Coop building on the corner? I can't get a clear enough zoom to read the sign!! Incidentally, are there any photos of the new market place - I haven't seen it yet!

  4. Wonderful shots. How strange I was only thinking of an Aiden Prince I knew back in the 70's, I'm wondering if it's the same chap? He used to wear a black crombie coat and was a popular chap in Hyde.

  6. Hi Tom,

I do hope Aiden is keeping well? He was a couple of years older than me (ha ha). He probably wouldn't remember me, he could possibly remember my ex who was in the Royal Navy at the time. Don't forget to say G'Day to him. Hello to Jane and hope you are both keeping well:)

  8. Top picture is not from the 1970's. Hyde Sports ( pictured next to the Jolly Carter pub) moved there from the top of market street in late 1980's / early 1990's.
