I've been busy today and not had time to write up a couple of posts that I'd planned to do, so today it's some pictures that have all been taken around the Matley Lane area. I have never been disappointed with any of the walks I took around here... it really is a beautiful place to spend time.
Barry in oz. I spent many wonderful hours as a kid looking for frogspawn, tadpoles and sticklebacks in some of the paddocks on Matley lane, also Blackberrying with the family on our sunday walk. My schoolchum lived at the farm in your photo, just past the Rising Moon, Brian Blenkinsop, and we played for hours on the farm.
ReplyDeleteSome great photos Tom
ReplyDeleteThen they ruined it by building along Matley Lane. When I was small it was a lovely walk to the Rising Moon. On the way we passed a house which had a front garden full of fairies and gnomes, stone of course, but quite magical to a young child. Does anyone else remember it?
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots, Tom. Thank you for them, they make me nostalgic!

ReplyDeleteAlso in Oz! I did exactly the same in the ponds along Matley Lane in the early 70's. Got to know Brian and his wife, older brother Derek and his wife and their mum Sarah (George, the dad had just died). Although the Blenkinsops lived there it was always called Pot House Farm afaik. Sarah and George came over to a farm in Dukinfield from Halifax, Yorks., before they moved into Pot House.
I have lived in this area for over twenty years and love walking here. It's lovely and much less known than other areas of Hyde and you can often be walking on your own through woods and fields, even at weekends. When my own children were very young I didn't live here but my grandsons are definitely benefiting from the fact that five minutes from my front door we can be in the middle of fields.
