according to a list found on the web, this was one of ten buses introduced in 1939 and withdrawn in 1956.

No 15 bus ran to Shaw hall the bay horse pub top end of Newton as it says on the front of the bus

I could see Shaw Hall but didn't know the exact route.
It looks as if it says 'via Newton St' on the route indicator. There's a photo of a no. 15 bus turning out of Talbot Road in the Tameside Image Archive which suggests that the route went: Newton Street-Lodge Lane-Ashton Road-Talbot Road, but it does say 'circular route' on the Tameside photo so presumably that involved running also along Victoria Street.

ReplyDeleteI used to catch the No.15 home from school in the early 70's. It used to go up Clarendon Road past the Grammar School, Victoria Street, Talbot Road, Ashton Road and back down Clarendon Road. They used to alternate which way they did the circular part of the route.

ReplyDeleteSusan informed me me that this SHMD bus at corner of Hamnett Street [note the UCP on the left]. The route of this bus service was circuitous - one left Hyde via Clarendon Road and Victoria Street, passing Newtonhurst and the Rexine {ICI} and returned to Hyde centre via Talbot Road, Bennett Street, Old Road and Newton Street. The other bus did the same route in reverse.
The Shaw hall No 15 bus ran 10min schedules alternating on two differant routes, Ashton road or Victoria St.
ReplyDeleteThe buses were always on time and an inspecter often boarded to check your tickets.
Five standing were allowed and smoking on upper deck only.
later the buses were replaced by utility types with wooden seats.
The no 15 Shaw Hall bus didnt go down either Old Road, Bennett street or Newton St.
ReplyDeleteIt took alternating routes from Hammnet St via Clarendon St, Clarendon Rd, Ashton Road, Talbot Road, Victoria St, and back to Hyde via Clarendon road.

The Stalybridge Bridge bus stop was on Clarendon Street near the Hippodrome Theatre.
ReplyDeleteIts route was Newton St,Old road, and Bennet St before turning left at the Cheshire Cheese in Newton and continuing on to Stalybridge.
The Manchester No8 bus was boarded in Greenfield St, and the Stockport one was directly facing the town hall
