Here's an old postcard of the Cemetery gates. Unfortunately there is no date on it.

i worked here for 5 years maintaining the lawns etc and when it was wakes holidays the paper shops wouls shut and there was always a newspaper stall outide the cemetery gates

Well done Tom. I'd been having a look at this as the spire is much lighter than the rest of the building. If you look at the Tameside MBC photographic archive, and type 'Hyde Cemetery' in the search box it comes up with 9 images. The spire is visible to varying degrees on several of these pictures.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tom and Dave. I've looked at the photographic archive of TMBC and can see the spire of the chapel clearer on the images there than in the uploaded photo where, to my eye, it is missing.
