Cemetery Postcard

Here's an old postcard of the Cemetery gates. Unfortunately there is no date on it.
Probably taken not long after the cemetery opened in 1894

A recent view taken from a similar angle courtesy of google maps.
Not changed a great deal really !

From this angle the spire on the chapel can be made out.

I'm puzzled by the building at the top of the driveway which looks more like St George's Church than the cemetery chapel.

Hi Werneth Low
I've up dated the post with a picture of the chapel from a different angle.. I've tweaked the image to enhance the spire on the chapel.. hope this helps

Well done Tom. I'd been having a look at this as the spire is much lighter than the rest of the building. If you look at the Tameside MBC photographic archive, and type 'Hyde Cemetery' in the search box it comes up with 9 images. The spire is visible to varying degrees on several of these pictures.

Thanks Tom and Dave. I've looked at the photographic archive of TMBC and can see the spire of the chapel clearer on the images there than in the uploaded photo where, to my eye, it is missing.
