This excellent and amusing account was sent to us via email by Tony Downend who is a wonderful scource of old local photographs that were taken by his father.

To add to this current interest here are a few more taken again by my Pater between 1951 & 53...as is in this case when I'm unsure I usually say 1952...but then I'm always open to correction!
Shown in these pics is the line running up to Sheffield and already, as can be seen, it has been (recently) electrified which may well date all of the pics. Pic 1: I recall on the rail track running right alongside the brick wall there of Daniel Adamson's their own company steam engine, the brightly coloured (green?) Little Enoch.
The final epic shows my Uncle Frank (Roe) who was the porter on Hyde Junction...and this was much to his little nephew's chagrin who by that time was a budding little train spotter and in the company of an older boy would start the journey to spot trains, don't tell Mother, on London Road Station, Manchester from the not so convenient Hyde Central...my hiding under carriage seats when when old push-and-pull pulled into Hyde Junction...the strapped pulling open the door by Uncle standing there my I seeing only his dark uniformed legs...an indelibly etched memory daring do..."
