Excellent post Nancy... I've been looking forward to these. Great cartoon... I noticed it is signed by an E. Ashton... I wonder if that was Thomas Gair Ashtons wife Eva.?

This reminded me of the 'Fur and Feather' shows that were held above Hyde Ambulance Station. My dad would be showing poultry, and my sister would be showing rabbits. Both used to win many shows, I am sure my sister would still have some of the brightly coloured rosettes and the cards with 1st 2nd or 3rd on them.
I am sure that my dad also showed chrysanthemums somewhere in Hyde.
His allotment (PEN) was on Church View.... I only found out recently that before my dad took it over it was his dads... and had been in the family for years.

I like the reference to the 'handsome amount' of £28 in prize money due to the 'generosity of the Managers and Staff'. What would that be worth today?

I've answered my own question here - I found an inflation calculator on Google which says that £28 in 1920 is now worth £1062.04! So yes, I suppose it was a handsome amount of money and showed how generous the Managers and Staff were.

I saw this early this morning Dave and thought I'd be clever and have a google.... I then went on to do something else and got carried away with that... well done for doing it anyway.. ha!
