Stockport Road View ( Again)

Photobucket

This is a view from Stockport Road... but can you tell just where from?  as I'm not 100% sure.

I'd say it was taken looking down towards Bowlacre from a point near the junction of Enfield Street.

Spouthouse farm is on your right so Id's say Werneth Low is spot on.

That's the spot I'd have said to... only on Tamesides Archives they have a copy and give it as being taken from the junction with Lilly Street looking down Stockport Road...
So far it's 3 for junction with Enfield St. and 0 for Stockport Road

It is definitely looking down Stockport Road towards Gerrads. On the left the row of houses is locally known as Long Row. My Dad was born at the top house in 1918.

Where's the row of terraced houses looking down from Lilly Street?? To be honest there are a good number of photo archives which are mis-described on the Tameside MBC website. I guess if its not in Ashton the archivists have never heard of it!

The road from Lilly Street downwards isn't as straight as this in any case, so it couldn't be there - and, as Werneth Low says, there aren't any terraced houses on that side of the road there. The house that's sticking out on the right just past the row of terraced houses is on the corner of what used to be Ambrose Street, opposite Brabyns Road - have a look on Google Street View from a viewpoint opposite Spouthouse Farm. But what's the gable wall you can see at the far end of the road? Is it the original Gerrards? It doesn't seem to be the existing house that's at the corner of Rosemary Drive. I don't think I'll risk standing in the middle of the road to try to get a photo of how the scene looks now!
