Garbetts Shoe Shop part 2

We recently received an email from Trish who has previously, very kindly, sent us some photos of her family's business "Garbetts" which was a shoe shop on the corner of Newton Street and Manchester Road before it's closure due to the building of the motorway through Hyde.
This week she has sent us some more information about the family....

Over to Trish.......

"I am working on my ancestry tree at the moment, and the 1911 census states that all the Garbett family lived at 269 Manchester Road, Hyde. head of house was my great grandad William Garbett, born 1849 in Shropshire, his wife Mary, sons Frank and John William, daughters Isobel, Hilda and Florence, they had lost a daughter Ellen Maria, who died at the age of six months in 1888.   The second son listed on the census was John William (Jack)born 1884, who was my grandad. Boot and shoemaking had been in the family since 1785 starting in Dawley Shropshire.
Here is a photo of my Great Grandad William Garbett born 1849  and still working at the age of eighty. He always liked to keep busy !
He died after a fall at his home on Apethorn Lane in 1932.  He was aged 83."

Lovely to see these, and as a child I was fascinated by the rocking horse. Wonder what happened to it?
