Summers here !

Here is a nice 'Summery shot' of Buttercup Meadow
aka "Shanes Field" which is at the top end of Gower Hey Wood.

It used to be such a beautiful field in the Summer, until the council in its infinite wisdom started cutting the grass every  few weeks which stopped the buttercups from seeding for the next year. I'm happy to say that the council now leave it as a wild meadow and all the beautiful wild flowers are starting to return.

Photo circa mid 1980's.
Note the houses on York Road can be seen in the distance.

Alway looks so nice around there at any time of the year... I do miss getting out and about with my camera... really do need to make more of an effort.

This is lovely. How did it get to be Called Buttercup Meadow and Shane's field? Way back in my childhood it was the farmer's field and you had to be ever watchful of Mr Martin catching you on it!

It was always known as Shanes Field when I was growing up because there was a horse/pony called Shane that grazed on there. The Land still belonged to Raymond Martin at that time.
It became known as Buttercup Meadow about 30 years ago due to the huge amount of Buttercups that bloomed there.... I'm happy to say the flowers are returning slowly but surely :)
