Another Mystery Building

Another mystery building somewhere in Hyde. The photo looks to date from around the 1940-50's. Next door is a Fruiter/Greengrocer with the last 3 letters of the name being "RST". I am sure I know the building but just can't place it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ladbrookes Bookmakers on Market Street.

It's surprising what a new facia does for a shop front !

Thanks to Google Street maps for the up to date picture.

I don't think it's the Reform Club because that was on a corner and this building clearly has a next door neighbour! I'm working on it!

Paul I thought I'd trawl through the image archive on Tamesides web site... there's a copy of the same picture and it say's it is the Market Street, Progressive Clothing Co.. I have heard of it but can not place it.... dose this ring any bells ?

Excellent update Nancy... Paul will be pleased...
I think a lot of the woodwork is original though some is in a bad state.
Some of the shop fronts are just that 'shop fronts' no character or resemblance to the original what so ever..

Looks good to me Tom. I hope you discover whose building it is or was. That makes a big difference in archiving film.

Thanks too for your visit to my pictures of Cardinals in Winter. I have a whole set of new snow related photos coming up.

Try this young man's blog, Tom. He lives in Japan and has married a Japanese Lady and they have one son. He has worked on big program development, like Adobe's Lightroom and knows about everything there is to know about photography and taking pictures.

Let me know how much you like his work.

I posted those attic windows on Hyde DP back in 2006 http://hydedailyphoto.blogspot.com/2006/05/attic-windows.html and nobody had any idea then.

Thank you very much for all the input on this one. The number of times I have been in that building in the past collecting all my winnings, (in my dreams). It just goes to show that you should always look up at old buildings as well as just eye level, you see much more. Yes it was the Progressive Clothing Co in the 1930's & 40's and next door was Harry Wood's fruiterer, later to have the large old tram depot on Lewis Street. The only thing that confused me were the letters "RST" on the shop sign. Anyway thanks again another mystery solved.
