Onward Chambers

Onward Chambers is next to Barclay's Bank, the signage over the door could easily be missed... anyone got any ideas about what this building was?

The building with the arched doorway facing and the square bay windows is now Barclay's, the doorway to Onward Chambers can just be made out opposite the tram.

here is another Onward Chambers in Hyde.. and that is on Onward Street.. I'm thinking the one above on Market Street is the original one.. and the one in Onward Street replaced this one.. but I would still like to know more about the Chambers and what went on there..

Sounds like it should be a solicitor's premises, but the only reference I can find is in Kelly's 1914 Directory of Cheshire:

Whalley Thomas Henry, district supt. Britannic Assurance Co. Limited, 34 Market Street

I'm with Dave, my first thought was a Solicitors office.

The upstairs was a snooker room with a few arcade machines in the early to mid 90s when I was in high school but the entrance was round the corner if I remember correctly
