Great big thank you Tom for this list. I remember Coronation Day, 2 June 1953, very well. I was 8 years old, and we were living in Kensington Street at the time. We didn't have a television in those days, but our next door neighbours, Mr & Mrs Howcroft, had bought one specially for the occasion, and we were invited in to watch. The set had a 9 inch screen - difficult to imagine in these days - and we seemed to sit round it for hours! It was amazing. All Hyde schoolchildren were presented with a Coronation mug - I still have mine. I remember also that during the same year, Mr & Mrs Redfern held a garden party at their house in Kensington Street and there were races on the lawn for the children. Mr & Mrs Adamson too gave a tea in their massive garage at Gower Hey for all the children of Kensington Street. It was a good year all round!
