Hyde Pubs 1975 (10)

This is the photograph from 7 or 8 years ago with the 'To Let' sign displayed.
Here's the latest photograph - the name of the pub is still displayed, but according to Paul Taylor's latest book it closed in 2012.
This is Tameside Council's blue plaque, recording The Cotton Tree's place in the history of the Chartist movement.

I always found this a good pub... and recall many a good tea time session in there. Shame to see the shutters up.
When you think that area kept The Junction, Duckinfield Arms, and a Social Club on Markham street going as well as the Cotton Tree. Sign of the times.

The above account says the original landlord was Joshua Cash but Paul Taylor's book says Joseph Cash. Which is right?
