Hyde Name Origins.

The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

Hyde Jubilee Coin.

Hyde Jubilee Celebration Coin.
June 13th - 22nd 1931

The front depicts the Town hall Building which was central to the majority of the celebrations.

The back shows the Hyde coat of arms plus the names of the two men who were Mayor on the dates 1881 and 1931 - Alderman Thomas Ashton and Alderman Thomas Middleton.

I was going to bid on one of these on Ebay... but the price was a tad high... I'm sure I'll get one in the future.. There's another Ox Roast plate on Ebay at the moment if anyone is interested.
