Hyde Name Origins.
The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

Excellent find Nancy... the market looked well in the 80s.... The market Square is due to have some work done on it soon... I hope it is an improvement worthy of the town. Nice to see a picture of Ken the Rat Man.. we mentioned him a while back.
I remember the stall selling handbags brief cases school bags all leather, just by the number 30 bus stop as in the photo. In the 1950's I think the stallholder was a Polish man. We bought many items from him. Ann Bacon(Stafford)
