Hyde Cricket Club Postcard
The postcard below was very kindly sent to us by Ann Bacon and shows her father, Arthur Stafford (Front row,far left). He was opening bat for Hyde Cricket Club when this photo was taken in 1928.
He was just 15 years old !

What a great picture... I hope we get some information about the club.
The History of Hyde:
"The Hyde Cricket Club was founded in 1901. It, too, has produced some good cricketers; amongst its best known being J.M.Beeley, the Cheshire County amateur; and L.Hopwood, the famous Lancashire County professional. For a number of years it played Wakes' Monday matches, in which some of the leading county players, both amateur and professional, took part."
Len Hopwood's son was a couple of years ahead of me when I was at Audenshaw Grammar School.
They use to play on the field directly behind the Smith Knight Fay garage on Dowson Road back then before moving up to Werneth Low. There used to be a old black shed up till about 10 years ago at the Werneth Low ground used to store the mowers and machinery, this was the original pavilion at the Pole Bank ground and was moved up to Werneth Low to serve the same purpose when they moved grounds.
