Hyde Name Origins.

The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

The National Reserve Club

This photo is of the National Reserve Social Club which was situated on Ridling Lane.
It was on the corner opposite to where Chartist House stands now.

My Grandad, John Morris, is seated 2nd row from the front ,2nd from the left.

The little building central in the map shows the approximate place where the club stood.(Corner of Fernally Street and Ridling Lane)
