Hyde Name Origins.

The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

Wm. W. Batty is in my family tree as a cabinet maker and joiner, so that advertisement provided me with a bit of extra information. He was born in Hyde in 1859, married Margaret Brian an ancestor of mine and retired to Hazel Grove where he died in 1937.
