Hyde Name Origins.
The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

Employing 2500 skilled operatives... it really dose not seem that long ago you could walk from one factory job to another.. and Hyde had such a choice of trades.
Thanks for stopping by the blog, Tom. It is good to hear from you again and I hope you and Jane are well.
This is interesting--it is getting more and more this way here. If the one major business closes in the largest town in our county, it will be hard times for a lot of the population. It is hard to find work, if one is not employed.
