Gee Cross Fete

It's Gee Cross Fete this weekend so what are the chances of some nice weather? Here are a couple of photos of the Burrell Showman's Traction Engine which has appeared there on several occasions. I'm sure it has a name (Traction Engines usually do) but I can't for the life of me remember what it is. No doubt someone out there knows.

This is at the 1994 Fete

The 1995 Fete with the Queen Adelaide in the background
EDIT
Thanks to Derek and Gerald who gave us the name of the 1921 Traction Engine which is "Lord Lascelles".

It is called the Lord Lascelles and was there in 2003 - see my photo on Geograph. I had a link there to a webpage all about it - alas the link is now dead.

A great link there Gerald.... I've missed the Fete for quite a number of years now... and once again we will be away for this one.

How much more crap from your cronies do we have to view before something decent is put on the blog.I've only been with it a month, but you don't need to be an atomic scientist to see the whole thing is run by a clique. The same smaltz and backslapping for the same names. Furthermore, I live in Gee Cross and that Fete is a total nuisence, street full of parked cars and noise into the late hours of Saturday evening. How would you like it on your door step for twenty four hours? You go out in you car and when you return your space if taken. My cars on a drive and I get some idiot parked right across the drive blocking me in.

I've left the above comment so others can see what we 'the' team sometimes have to put up with.
In the future all such comments will be removed to keep the comments a more friendly place.
At the moment Nancy and Dave are doing a sterling job with Paul posting when he finds time.. I have had to take a back seat for a while because of health issues but monitor all comments.
Being a bit critical is fine but I think this over steps the mark... please save comments and thoughts like this for your own blog... if you don't have one then maybe it is time you started one ...... 'Ranting For Trolls' would be a good title.

I don't understand what Maloney hopes to achieve by such remarks - you don't have to read the blog - you could express an alternative view in less obnoxious terms - so what if it is a clique - they are not denying you anything nor imposing anything on you - see if you can do anything better - I have doubts that you could or you'd be doing it instead of posting rubbish comments here.

i think maloney must be a very lonely person and has a grudge with tameside council and is trying to put his/her case on here to put a point across.i dont think will be missed if they do not use this blog again i my self find this blog one of the best i have read yet with more info about hyde i have known.so like gerald(hyde DP)says you don't have to read this if you think you can do better by all means do so.this team are doing a brilliant job so carry on has they say.and from me thanks to you all.

Maloney, nobody makes you view this blog and if that's your opinion maybe its better that you don't. I don't leave comments often but find this to be a wealth of fascinating information, and a great way of preserving local history. Instead of slating the efforts of the team,(who must ask themselves why they bother at times)I would much rather applaud them and thank them for giving up there time to produce a site of interest to many people.

Maloney, it must be terrible when you are forced to read something you don't like. damn the Hydonian for making you !
This blog is great. I have found out so much about the town I was born in by reading it.
If you have an issue with the fete, contact Tameside Council - I am sure they have many people on the payroll who would be dying to put you on hold.......forever.

Have a good life in lonelyville.

Hi Maloney, if you are fed up with the blog staff posting things from a "clique of backslapping people" then why not send us some of YOUR views and photos for us to put on the blog ?

All very welcome.

Thanks for you support, everyone.
Obviously, we can't please all of the people all of the time but your kind words are a welcomed sight.
I wish people would just remember that this is a voluntary blogsite and we work with whatever people kindly send in to us.
WE find it ALL interesting.

So, anyone NOT enjoying it, get looking through your own personal photographs and send them in to us !

Thanks, Nancy.

Judging by the relies to my criticism my remarks did not go down well, but some of the replies came from the direction I had expected them to come... the small clique of backslappers. I was only talking to someone from a local history society last weekend, and during our conversation the Hyde Blog was mentioned. Oh she said, don't hold your breath if you are trying to get anything posted on that, it is run by a small clique of local bloggers, you will see the same names appear on virtually every blog and comment. As for the Gee Cross Fete, come up to School Lane, Baron Road, Ralph Avenue, Rowbotham Street, Enfield Street and Joel Lane to hear what the people think about it.The Music on Satuday evening can be heard all around the neighbourhood, and parking on Sunday is terrible.

Thanks for your reply,Maloney.

I am saddened that someone from a local history society felt the need to belittle our efforts. This blog is run for the love of our town and a want to get "all things Hyde" together for the perusal of anyone who wishes to find out a little of the history and traditions our town. If the "un-named" lady wanted anything posted on here then all she had to do was send it to us. We post EVERYTHING that is sent to us, in due course. I would have thought someone from a historical society would welcome ANY form of documentation, even a blog run by amateurs.
Maybe next time you speak to her you could tell her this.

We run it for no profits so for what possible reason would we keep it to a clique?

As for the same names coming up in comments , maybe, just maybe they are the only people who contribute photos and love the town as much as us to want to bother to comment?. Anyone is allowed to comment, you know.

Regards,
Nancy.

Just a thought....what does Maloney term as 'Decent' content for the site? Does he / she have anything specific in mind? Sometimes also, I have found local societies can be just as 'Cliquey'. Why would a local historical society be anything other than happy with your site….surely it would give them a wider forum to ask questions of and share information with. Anyhow guys, a slap on the back from me and perhaps Maloney should stay on their lonely only!

Hope the fete is a success but people have to decide what kind of fete they really want. Whoever had the idea to erect that monstosity of a fairground ride cannot of lived close to Sam Redfern Green. The noise and what was attracted by it was horrible last night. Do we want a quality night with quality music, or chavy fairground rides with equally chavy music. Big mistake

For the people that are complaining about the Fete:
It is a once a year event which is thoroughly enjoyed by the children who attend. Surely you can't deny them this? If the noise etc is so bad then maybe you can arrange your holidays for when the Fete is on so you are not inconvenienced for this short period of time..

Bah Humbug !
