Hyde Name Origins.

The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

I've got photos of my Mum at school which are a bit older than this but unfortunately she lived in Audenshaw.

Thanks very much for this. My mum is in it. We have one photo of her at age 10 but no school photos as a "wicked stepmother" destroyed all her possessions. Some members may remember Canon May from Godley Church. Mum said he used to take assembly at Leigh St and looked no different in his 30's than he did in his 90's.
