Thomas Beeley of Pole Bank.

David Barlow has sent us this interesting document

"Thought this may be of interest to Hydonians"

Couple of documents highlighting Pole Banks history and the fragmentation of the Thomas Beeley Estate following his death in 1908 and subsequent auction in 1912 after which I believe Pole Bank Hall was then leased for 7 years to Thomas Kerfoot.
The Hall and Grounds were purchased in 1920 by George Frederick Byrom for £4200. George Byrom died in 1942 and in 1946 in accordance with his will and wishes Pole Bank Hall and Grounds were bequeathed to the Corporation of Hyde for the use and recreation of the general public.

"This information is accurate to my knowledge however I stand to be corrected through your comments section"

Thomas Beeley of Pole Bank, Hyde

Many Thanks, David. :)

There are usually maps with these sales catalogues. It would be interesting to see that, too.

Thomas Carter Beeley and his family were living at Bowlacre when he died on 9 June 1909 and although a near neighbour of Pole Bank, I wonder how the Beeleys acquired it, since it is well documented that the Hall was built by and for the mill-owning Ashtons. There is obviously a link between the two properties and I'm interested to know what it is.

yes you are right Werneth low..Thomas Carter Beeley lived at Bowlacre and died at the young age of 40 in 1909 one year after the death of his father Thomas Beeley of Pole Bank Hall who died in 1908 aged 75 years..will send Tom a couple of photos of the Beeleys and see if he wants to put them on the blog...

Thomas carter Beeleys father Thomas Beeley lived in polebank hall and passed away 1908, the year before Thomas carter Beeley died 1909.I think this is why the whole family estate came up for auction 1912...

So that's it! Thank you, Dave B, for solving the mystery for me. I learnt quite a bit about the Beeleys when I was young as my mother was employed by George and Dorothy Adamson (Thomas Carter Beeley's eldest daughter). It would be good to see photos of the family. Thanks again.

No problem Werneth Low...Good info on Beeleys, Google--Graces Guide--Boiler makers and then T (Thomas Beeley & son)
On another site Dorothy Adamson whom you mention (Born Beeley 1897)is also listed. Google--www.worldvitalrecords.com--Given name(leave blank) Family name (Beeley) Place (Hyde)--search--and then click on (Family Trees(46)see more). Her name pops up on page 2. When I clicked on the names of the two Thomas's I was lucky and the two photo's came up free! however for more detailed information on this site I'm afraid it may involve getting the credit card out...

Thanks again, Dave. All this is very interesting. George Adamson died in 1976 and Dorothy in 1983. They had 3 children - Sally Carter Adamson, born 1928, Judith Ryder Adamson, born 1932 and John Daniel Adamson, born 1935. Wonder if they're still alive. Judy married Dr John Bennett in 1959 but I don't know more than that.
