Hyde Name Origins.

The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

This brought back many memories as I attended St. Pauls with George Ball and Lawrence Brady. George was a year older than I but our paths crossed again when I worked at Ashton Bros, as a warp gaiter in the 50s and George was going out with a girl there as was I. Also I know Lawrence had a brother Stanley, wonder what happened to him.
