Hyde Name Origins.

The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

Ladies day out

This photo was sent to us by Stephen Burton with the following text..

"Here is a photograph of a ladies day out taken on Commercial Street around 1950.
My Grandmother is just to the right and slightly behind the lady holding a very large hat.
Hopefully somebody will be able to put names to a few of the faces" !

What a great picture this is... I'd love to know more about the day out... all the ladies are wearing flowers and a few have party hats on. The lady second from the right, back row is a stunner... I bet their day out was filled with laughter.
