The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

They were taken in 2007 just prior to it being

Though the White Hart was demolished in 2007 some of the outbuildings remain, as this post in September 2011 shows.
hello everone, eileen from bolton here. we've drove past loads of times but didn't notice it's no longer there. i only went in once in decemeber 1966 when i was 15 years old! i went in one lunch time with friends from ashton brothers before finnishing for the holidays. it was a cold, cold day so had rum & blackcurrents - a few!before going back to work i left a ring in the ladies loo. went back to work the worse for ware before i missed it. i had to explain to the forewomen that i had to rush back to the pub to retrieve it. she was not impressed - i nearly got sacked that day - but over the years we became good friends and i worked for ashton brother for 11 years!
If you have any pictures, stories, memories, or items from or about Hyde and you would like to share them here with other like minded Hydonians please get in touch with us. Either leave us a comment or even better email us:
Tom, Dave, Paul and I would like to say thank you to everyone for contributing to this blog in some small way - even if that means just reading it! It's been more of a success than we could ever have dreamt of and that's all down to you ! It was our intention to get Hyde "on the record" as it were and it seems to be heading in the right direction. We are very proud of Hyde and would like it's history to live on!
