Hyde Name Origins.

The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

Notable Visits to Hyde

Dave sent us these interesting newspaper clippings of more notable visits to Hyde with the following information....

" Here are 4 more newspaper clippings of visits to Hyde by notable people. Three give you the dates, the one of Montgomery says it was 10 years after his victory at El Alamein - which was in 1942, so his visit would have been in 1952."

Many Thanks, Dave.
