i worked here for 5 years maintaining the lawns etc and when it was wakes holidays the paper shops wouls shut and there was always a newspaper stall outide the cemetery gates
Hi Werneth Low I've up dated the post with a picture of the chapel from a different angle.. I've tweaked the image to enhance the spire on the chapel.. hope this helps
Well done Tom. I'd been having a look at this as the spire is much lighter than the rest of the building. If you look at the Tameside MBC photographic archive, and type 'Hyde Cemetery' in the search box it comes up with 9 images. The spire is visible to varying degrees on several of these pictures.
Thanks Tom and Dave. I've looked at the photographic archive of TMBC and can see the spire of the chapel clearer on the images there than in the uploaded photo where, to my eye, it is missing.

I remember the paper stall I used to go up to here for my dads paper - and the football pink !
I'm puzzled by the building at the top of the driveway which looks more like St George's Church than the cemetery chapel.
