Hyde Name Origins.

The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

The Commercial Pub

Here is another fine photograph sent to us by Stephen Burton.

The photograph shows his grandfather in a group of men outside the Commercial public house on the corner of Commercial Brow and Bottom Street.

I see the landlords name is William Bradley. I wonder if he is any relation to Joshua Bradley?

As before I have put a thumbnail on so a bigger picture can be seen. Press the thumbnail to go to photobucket, then press the photo in photobucket to see the larger image.

Many thanks, Stephen :)

William Bradley was landlord of the Commercial from around 1913 to 1928.
