Harry Rutherford's Festival of Britain Mural
I used to like the chippy on Newton Street. It had a step leading up to the front door. Can anyone remeber the name of it?
No14 Newton Street was a Fish & Chip shop, quite a few years back.1934 was Gerrards, 1928 was Parkers & 1914 was Richards.
I'm not 100% sure on this but I seem to recall the Grimshaws had a chippy there... it was their son Trevor Grimshaw the artist who was feature on here a week or so back. I'll try to find out more on that.
i think the owner of the chippy was called barns.in the 60s went there often after coming from the spinners.the cafe toms on about was called jacks transport cafe.Trevor grimshaws dad owned that cafe for a few years.it faced the highland laddie.grafton street and corner newton street.(greasy jacks.)we called it.
Anon...thank you for clearing that up... I knew I'd heard or Trevor had mentioned his dads cafe... As soon as I read 'cafe' I remembered it as so.
