Hyde Name Origins.

The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

I have done this walk quite a few time in the past... once or twice at night as well.. it was never as quiet as this... or as peaceful looking.

I can not imagine walking along that road now... ha!.. but at least it is a lot quieter now than it was in the 1970s when lorry's used Gee Croos as a short cut to the motor way.. before the M67 and of course the M60 was built.
