Hyde Name Origins.

The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

Another sad day !

Below is the latest Hyde pub casualty.
Sadly, the Ring 'o' Bells on Stockport Road has pulled its last pint.
There will be no pubs left in Hyde at this rate !

I lived at the Ring O Bells in 1961 aged 4!
