Look at how the housing estate has shot up in the second photo !Hyde Grammar was practically the only building around on the older picture .

Barry in Oz. There's an interesting video on Youtube showing Hyde grammar lads playing football in 1946 with Fred Whyatt as a lad, he was later the gym teacher at Floweryfield secondary, also Warren Bradley, the Man U and England player.

Barry Mr Whyatt was my PE teacher at Hyde Grammar did he teach at Floweryfield before teaching at Hyde Grammar? we use to call him Pele presumably because of the great Brazilian football player but I dont why as I cannot see a connection

It was whilst I was at Hyde Grammar mid to late 70's that it's closure was announced around 1975 I think?
It stopped intakes so numbers of pupil's declined and losing teachers it was gradually closed over a period of time and became a sixth form college
The old tennis court's and athletic's field are now the site of Hyde police station
The film was taken by George Wain who was the Art master at Hyde Grammar. There are other of his films on YouTube, too.
Barry in Oz. Yes Tigerboy, Fred taught at Floweryfield before he went to Hyde Grammar I believe. His place at FF was taken by MR Hart.

By sheer coincidence my old home is featured in George Wain's film "Much Ado" albeit very briefly blink and you miss it!

I often wondered what the farm and area looked like before the estates were built and this film gives some indication

Did you know Joan Green? She was my best friend at junior school and lived on Knott Lane.
I've watched the George Wain films several times in the past - love the 'little boy lost' one. Going back to Hyde Grammar, for most of my years at primary school my ambition was to pass the 11+ and go there but, alas, by the time I did pass, they'd built the ghastly Astley and I had to go there. I love the Hyde Grammar school song though.

I lived at the farm for around 4/5 years in the early to late 70's so as a young to mid teen boy my social circle was pretty limited

Goodier House was not on Ashton Road which is the road in the picture. That house is situated where the second hand car garage is today, facing the football field.
I went to Hyde Grammar in 1974. "Pele" Whyatt made me captain of the football tea - I think because he had taught my brother 16 years previously! By 1974 he was the senior PE teacher, assisted by Mr Bennett and later Mt Cotter. Both these were "rugby" specialists, whilst Fred was football. He allocated other teachers to run the teams on a saturday. Mr Bibby, a Latin teacher, was our coach / manager. I was in the upper sixth at the start of the September 1980 term, when girls arrived in the lower sixth and we became a 6th form College.

You must have been around Hyde Grammar at the same time as me possibly same year or year below
I never made school team I was a late developer went on to play football at a local amateur level for a couple of teams in the Anglian Combination football league
Pleased you commented I always remember there was a bit of a leaning to Rugby at the school
I also remember Mr Bibby he taught me latin till I dropped the subject although to my shame I can only recall one phrase " In pictora est puella"
