Hyde Name Origins.

The name "HYDE" is derived from the hide, a measure of land for taxation purposes, taken to be that area of land necessary to support a peasant family. In later times it was taken to be equivalent to 120 acres .

View down Stockport Road

stockport road
A 1920's view looking down Stockport Road near the junction with Knight Street. How the horizon has changed with all the chimneys now demolished. It's nice to see that the trees are still there....Everything looks so busy in the later photograph.
